Cerium Doped Yttrium Aluminum Garnet (Ce:YAG), oval cut. The material is single crystal pulled yag which was grown in the early 90's. This is a test stone that was cut from a test boule of cerium doped boule. Cerium doped YAG is sensitive to Ultra-Violet light, see Photo II. It is used to make very sensitive photon counters as well as radiation detectors. The color on this stone is fantastic and it makes a nice collector piece.
